Alexander Stevenson’s Art Bike Event
This weekend the Bike So Cool: Art Bike Event will be getting people moving in the streets of Glasgow and giving bikes the chance to become a star for the day. Alexander Stevenson has been building a number of painted backdrops and podiums that will be placed at art galleries along the route, these will allow participant’s bikes to be displayed temporarily alongside the ‘extraordinary’ bikes that have been created specifically for this event. This is the second art event in Glasgow in the last month that features bikes and it should roundup up the GI International Arts Festival and the Atypical Routes Public Art Trails nicely.
The ride looks to be fairly relaxed, with an estimated 3 hours to move across a wee route through the city. I guess it should leave lots of time for photographs and visiting the exhibitions on the way. It starts at the David Dale Gallery at 12 noon and then stops at a number of other galleries along the way ( Trongate 103 at 1pm, Glasgow Sculpture Studios at 2pm, SWG3 at 2.30pm and finally the Govan Armada on Clydebrae Street at 3pm)
It looks like Alexander has been appealing to cyclists within various networks to come along and so far I have seen the event on Central Station, Facebook and Gumtree! So I look forward to seeing the turnout tomorrow… I plan to go along tomorrow which means I should hopefully get some nice pictures, but I just have to repair the puncture I got on thursday night first!
